Hudson’s passion for creating dramatic still and moving images is infectious. In addition to his on-the-ground work in adventure, travel and expeditions, a growing list of commercial clients rely on Hudson’s unique ability to produce stunning ultra-high resolution works in locations and the most demanding conditions. Panoramic blends, composites, 360-degree images and time-lapse videos are all long-standing technical specialties. Hudson is also a teacher and a people person, and has been teaching photography workshops regularly since 2017. Hudson will teach Noise reduction and sharpening for wildlife images at the ON1 conference.
Hudson specializes in small workshops of fewer than 15 people, teaching landscape, wildlife and street photography throughout the United States. These workshops range from national parks such as Death Valley, Arches**,** and Yellowstone to cities like Portland, Oregon**,** and Charleston, South Carolina, and international destinations such as Patagonia and Costa Rica . Hudson spends a lot of time writing articles, producing instructional videos**, and designing training programs to help fellow visual artists increase their technical shooting and editing skills, as well as develop their distinct creative vision. Hudson finds coaching other photographers incredibly rewarding.
How long have you been using ON1?
Forever! Honestly, it feels like it’s been 12 years, maybe more. Haha. It’s been an integral part of my editing workflow for so long that I can’t imagine not using it.
Why do you like ON1 Photo RAW?
I love how it layers your editing work non-destructively, from NoNoise AI all the way to development and effects. It’s seamless and powerful, and the ability to layer multiple edits with intuitive yet robust masking tools is a game-changer. It simply gives you complete creative control without ever feeling overwhelmed.
Which feature(s) do you prefer?
It has always been possible to complete edits with non-destructive overlay and mask effects. There is so much freedom there! But lately, NoNoise AI has become a strong contender for my favorite feature: it’s amazing how much it improves image quality right out of the box.
What is your best advice for new photographers using ON1 Photo RAW?
Dive in and experiment! Don’t be afraid to try all options: it’s non-destructive, so you can’t mess up anything. Use versions to record different steps in your workflow so you can review or compare them later. And definitely consider joining ON1 Plus; training materials are an absolute goldmine for learning and growing.
What is always in your camera bag (besides the camera)?
A reliable headlamp: It’s a lifesaver for early morning or late evening photoshoots. Oh, and snacks, because no one wants to shoot on an empty stomach!
What inspires your photographic style?
I started out very inspired by legends like Galen Rowell and Art Wolfe, whose work made me want to get out and explore the world. Over time, my influences expanded to include, among others, André Kertész, Sebastião Salgado and Arnold Newman. Their styles have helped shape the way I see and capture moments today.
The best place to follow you?
Definitely YouTube! This is where I share most of my work and connect with people who love photography as much as I do.
